What do ipod gestures do

Here's how it works: when a user is in a supported app, such as Messages, Settings, Mail or Safari and they'd like to go back to the message list, the previous screen in Settings or the previous Web page in Safari, they can swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right.

The current screen will then be taken with the gesture, above the previous screen, and eventually pushed entirely off the device's display. It's a quick and easy gesture, but one that takes some adjustment. You can see it in action in this Vine video:. The back gesture now means users have to swipe from the right side of the screen to bring up the actions that can be taken on a message or e-mail.

Prevent unintended swipe gestures: To increase the amount of movement required before a swipe gesture begins, tap Swipe Gestures, turn on Swipe Gestures, then adjust required movement. Treat multiple touches as a single touch: Turn on Ignore Repeat, then tap or to adjust the amount of time allowed between multiple touches. If you choose Use Initial Touch Location, iPod touch uses the location of your first tap—when you tap an app on the Home Screen, for example. Tap or to adjust the timing.

Your device can respond to other gestures, such as a drag gesture, if you wait longer than the gesture delay. The touch-and-hold gesture reveals content previews, actions, and contextual menus.

Drag an icon up, down, right or left to change its location. If you want to move an icon to another screen, drag it to the edge of the display until the next screen appears and then lift your finger. Drag one wobbling icon onto another to automatically create a folder that contains both apps. Swipe a finger up or down to scroll through documents, such as while reading a website with the native Safari Web browser or a lengthy message in the Mail app.

Alternately, tap the right side of the display to go to the next page or tap the left side to go the previous page. Touch a controller, such as a slider to control the brightness of the display in the iPod Touch Settings section or the volume slider in the native Music app. Drag to the left to decrease the setting and drag to the right to increase the setting.
